Vusimuzi “Cat” Matlala has denied paying any money to support Senzo Mchunu’s alleged ANC presidential campaign, saying he lacks the funds for such a contribution. The statement comes after months of explosive accusations linking him to secret payments — claims he now rejects as false and unsubstantiated.
Vusimuzi “Cat” Matlala has firmly denied allegations that he bankrolled Senzo Mchunu’s alleged ANC presidential ambitions, insisting he never funded any campaign and simply “doesn’t have that kind of money.”
Matlala was on Wednesday testifying before parliament's ad hoc committee investigating corruption in the police service in South Africa.
His denial follows explosive claims made before the Madlanga Commission, where a witness alleged Matlala paid around R500,000 to support Mchunu’s supposed leadership bid, including covering travel and accommodation costs. The testimony also linked him to alleged payments involving senior police officials and hinted at possible connections to state contracts.
Matlala has rejected every allegation, calling them false, unfounded and financially impossible for him to have made. His rebuttal adds a new layer of uncertainty to an inquiry already marked by contradictory accounts, political tensions and questions about the credibility of key witnesses.
