Brown Mogotsi back in court as trial date expected to be set
Alleged political fixer Brown Mogotsi is expected back in the Johannesburg Magistrates' Court today, where the matter is set to return for the allocation of a trial date after his second bail application was dismissed.
Alleged political fixer Brown Mogotsi is expected to appear in the Johannesburg Magistrates' Court on Wednesday, where a trial date is likely to be set in his criminal case.
The court recently dismissed Mogotsi's second bail application, ruling that it presented no new facts that would justify his release.
Magistrate Annalise Tlhapi found that the residential address submitted by the defence had already been considered during the initial bail application and was supported by the same information previously presented to the court, including a location pin and confirmation from his wife.
Mogotsi faces charges of perjury, defeating the ends of justice, and firearm-related offences.
The State alleges that he orchestrated a fake assassination attempt against himself in November last year, allegedly to mislead investigators and obstruct the administration of justice.
Mogotsi has been in custody since his arrest on May 15, just days after he appeared before the Madlanga Commission of Inquiry, where he testified amid allegations that he acted as an intermediary between senior law enforcement officials and politically connected individuals.
