Young innovators from across BRICS and the Global South wrap up a two-day summit in Pretoria, showcasing solutions in AI, sustainability and food security.
The 2026 BRICS+ Youth Innovation Summit concludes on Friday in Pretoria, bringing together young entrepreneurs and innovators from across BRICS nations and the Global South.
Hosted by the South African BRICS Youth Association in partnership with Tshwane University of Technology and the Centre for Entrepreneurship Development, the two-day event focused on youth-driven solutions to global challenges under the theme of sustainable development and global prosperity.
The summit, held on 9 and 10 April 2026, showcased innovations across three key areas: sustainable development and green innovation, artificial intelligence and digitisation, and agri-tech solutions for food security.
Speaking at the event, SABYA Executive Chairman Raymond Matlala highlighted the growing role of young people in addressing pressing global issues. He noted that the summit created a platform for innovators to strengthen their ideas through mentorship, investment opportunities and cross-border collaboration.
Participants engaged in project presentations, workshops, mentorship sessions and networking activities, with selected young entrepreneurs pitching their innovations to panels of industry experts, investors and policymakers.
Dr Patrick Ebewo emphasised the importance of initiatives that support youth entrepreneurship, saying access to mentorship, funding and global networks is essential for building inclusive and sustainable economies.
Top-performing participants will receive ongoing support through the SABYA Young Entrepreneurs Network, including opportunities to access international platforms such as the Saint Petersburg International Economic Forum 2026.
Organisers say the summit has provided young innovators with valuable exposure, practical insights and international connections, helping to strengthen their projects and drive long-term impact across the Global South.
