Police have arrested a 23-year-old man in connection with the deadly drive-by shooting that claimed six lives in Reiger Park over the weekend. The arrest follows intensive investigations by the Anti-Gang Unit, which continues to patrol the area amid heightened security.
Police in Gauteng have arrested a 23-year-old man suspected of being involved in the deadly drive-by shooting that killed six people and injured three others in Reiger Park, Ekurhuleni, on Saturday night.
The arrest was confirmed by the Acting Provincial Commissioner of Police in Gauteng, Major General Fred Kekana, who said the suspect was taken into custody on the night of 3 November 2025 following investigations by the Anti-Gang Unit.
“The suspect was arrested through the dedicated work of the Anti-Gang Unit, which has been working tirelessly since the incident,” said Major General Kekana. The man is expected to appear in the Boksburg Magistrate’s Court on 5 November 2025.
In a separate operation, the Anti-Gang Unit arrested a 62-year-old man for possession of drugs while patrolling the Reiger Park area. The suspect was stopped and searched, and police found 14 ziplock bags containing methcathinone, also known as “Cat”, along with 43 mandrax tablets and 105 half mandrax tablets.
Major General Kekana praised the officers for their swift action and thanked community members for assisting police with information that led to the arrests. “The arrest would not have been this quick without your assistance. From our engagements, you heard our call to cooperate and work with the police to rid our communities of criminal elements,” he said.
He also appealed to residents to continue reporting suspicious activities to the authorities. “We call on all members of the public to remain vigilant and to report any criminal activities to the Crime Stop Line at 08600 10111 or to use the MySAPS App for anonymous tip-offs,” said Major General Kekana.
The arrest comes as police maintain a heavy presence in Reiger Park following the weekend shooting that left the community shaken. The National Commissioner of Police, General Fannie Masemola, visited the area on Sunday and directed that more police officers be deployed on the ground to restore safety and confidence among residents.
On Monday morning, several police vehicles were stationed outside the Reiger Park Police Station, and additional patrols were seen throughout the neighbourhood. Residents said the visible police presence had brought some relief after days of fear and tension.
The Saturday night attack took place when gunmen believed to be gang members opened fire from two VW Polos on residents who were gathered outside homes. Witnesses described a scene of chaos and terror as bullets struck multiple people. The gunmen fled the scene, leaving bodies scattered along the street.
The incident has since prompted outrage and grief in the community, with local leaders and residents calling for stronger action against gang-related violence.
Police said investigations into the motive behind the shooting are ongoing, and further arrests have not been ruled out.
Major General Kekana said the police would continue their operations in the area to ensure safety and bring those responsible to justice. “We will not rest until everyone involved in this brutal attack is arrested and faces the full might of the law,” he said.
