Qhawekazi Mazaleni from Dutywa in the Eastern Cape was crowned Miss South Africa 2025 at SunBet Arena in Pretoria. The Stellenbosch University graduate takes over from Mia le Roux and will represent the country in international events and social projects during her reign.
Qhawekazi Mazaleni was crowned Miss South Africa 2025 during a glittering ceremony held at the SunBet Arena in Pretoria on Saturday night. The 24-year-old, who hails from Falakahla village in Dutywa in the Eastern Cape, became emotional as she was announced the winner, shedding tears of joy in front of a cheering crowd.
Mazaleni, who holds a degree in Speech Language and Therapy from Stellenbosch University, is the second member of her family to make it to the top of the prestigious competition. Her sister, Homba Mazaleni, was among the Top 5 finalists in the Miss South Africa 2023 pageant, making the siblings one of the few families in the history of the competition to achieve such recognition.
She succeeds Miss South Africa 2024 winner Mia le Roux, who made history last year as the first differently abled person to wear the crown. The 2025 event marked the 67th edition of the pageant, which has grown to become one of South Africa’s most celebrated national events.
Luyanda Zuma (an actress) was announced as the first runner-up, while Karabo Mareka took second runner-up position. Both finalists were praised for their dedication and performances throughout the competition.
Political parties, government departments, and citizens across South Africa have joined in congratulating Mazaleni on her achievement. The uMkhonto weSizwe Party (MK Party) described her win as a moment of national pride.
“Throughout her Miss South Africa journey, Qhawekazi Mazaleni has embodied the essence of South African women, demonstrating grace, elegance, and an ability to capture the hearts of people across our great nation,” said MK Party national spokesperson Nhlamulo Ndhlela. “We trust that her reign will serve as an inspiration to the youth and women of South Africa, reminding us all that determination and perseverance are the keys to success.”
The MK Party also congratulated all contestants for showcasing South Africa’s diverse cultures and for representing women of different backgrounds and stories. “Their stories continue to inspire and reflect the strength, resilience, and beauty that define our nation. We also extend our gratitude to Mia le Roux, who served the nation with grace and elegance during her reign as Miss South Africa 2024,” Ndhlela added.
The Economic Freedom Fighters also sent a message of support to the new queen, writing on X, formerly Twitter, “May your reign inspire millions, particularly young women and children, to dream without limits, believe in their potential, and relentlessly pursue their aspirations.”
The South African government congratulated Mazaleni in an official post, stating, “What a way to start the day. Congratulations to Qhawe Mazaleni, our newly crowned Miss South Africa 2025. All hail the Queen, shining with grace, beauty, and purpose.”
As part of her duties, Mazaleni is expected to represent South Africa on international stages, including global beauty competitions such as Miss Universe. She will also take part in various community development initiatives supported by the Miss South Africa Organisation, focusing on education, youth empowerment, and speech and hearing awareness in line with her professional background.
