Air Traffic and Navigation Services (ATNS) has said operations will run without major disruption during the G20 Summit and the upcoming festive season, after recent cancellations and reroutings highlighted procedural backlogs. The agency expects improvements to be completed by July next year
In Johannesburg, the Air Traffic and Navigation Services (ATNS) expressed confidence that flights in South Africa will proceed smoothly during the upcoming G20 leaders’ summit and through the festive period. The assurance comes amid concerns of recent cancellations and reroutings, owing in part to lapsed procedural updates and challenging weather conditions.
ATNS stated that while Mother Nature has played a role in disruptions, a significant part of the issue stemmed from outdated flight procedures. They highlighted that the necessary procedural updates are scheduled for completion by July next year.
The agency’s positive outlook on operational stability comes at a crucial time as the country prepares to host international delegates for the G20 summit. Smooth air‑traffic operations are essential not only for the event’s logistics, but for maintaining confidence across the aviation sector as the country enters a busy travel period.
