The ANC and SACP will meet at Luthuli House to strengthen coordination and discuss shared political and governance priorities. The bilateral engagement forms part of ongoing efforts to align alliance partners in advancing the National Democratic Revolution.
The African National Congress and the South African Communist Party will hold a bilateral engagement in Johannesburg on Monday as the two organisations seek to reinforce cooperation and address recent tensions within the alliance.
The meeting will take place at the Chief Albert Luthuli House headquarters and forms part of ongoing efforts to consolidate unity of purpose in advancing the National Democratic Revolution.
The ANC said the session is a scheduled engagement aimed at strengthening coordination on political, organisational and governance matters. The alliance partners have a long standing relationship that stretches back to the liberation struggle and continue to consult on policy direction, government programmes and strategic priorities.
The meeting comes at a time when the alliance has been navigating internal debates about its future direction and the role each organisation should play in the political landscape.
In recent months, reports surfaced that the SACP had renewed consideration of contesting national elections independently. This followed an article written by SACP General Secretary Blade Nzimande, which reopened discussions about the party’s electoral path.
The article triggered debate among some SACP members, with differing views expressed on whether the party should remain within the tripartite structure or forge its own electoral identity. The leadership of both organisations is expected to use Monday’s engagement to address these concerns and reaffirm areas of common purpose.
The meeting is scheduled to begin at 11h00, preceded by a brief media photo opportunity at 10h30. It will be held on the eleventh floor of Luthuli House in central Johannesburg. Officials are expected to provide a short update once discussions conclude.
The ANC and SACP hold regular bilateral engagements to strengthen the functioning of the alliance, which has played a central role in shaping government policy since the early years of democracy. Party leaders have emphasised the need for consistent consultation to ensure coordinated action on socio economic challenges facing the country.
