The ANC has slammed Eskom for not doing enough to reduce electricity costs, saying the utility is falling short on its promise to make power more accessible for ordinary South Africans. The party argues that high tariffs continue to burden consumers and undermine socio-economic equity.
The African National Congress has accused Eskom of failing to deliver on its commitment to making electricity more affordable for South Africans. According to the party, the persistent high cost of power is placing a heavy burden on households and contradicts earlier pledges from both Eskom and government officials.
ANC leaders argue that, despite improvements in Eskom’s operational performance, the utility has not translated its gains into meaningful relief for the public. They say the current electricity pricing framework still disadvantages ordinary consumers, especially low-income households, and risks driving increased economic inequality.
The party’s criticism comes amid broader debates about electricity pricing policy, cost recovery, and the balance between Eskom’s financial sustainability and the public’s access to affordable power. While Eskom has improved generation availability, the ANC insists that it must go further in ensuring that the benefits of stabilization are felt by the people who need it most.
