Party also files complaints with Public Protector and Parliament over alleged undeclared luxury gifts.
ActionSA MP Dereleen James has laid criminal charges against Social Development Minister Sisisi Tolashe, accusing her of misleading Parliament about luxury gifts reportedly worth around R1 million.
James said the party opened a corruption case and also filed complaints with the Public Protector and Parliament’s Ethics Committee.
The allegations relate to two SUVs said to have been received from Chinese officials. Tolashe told Parliament the vehicles were donated to the ANC Women’s League, not to her personally.
However, the ANC Women’s League has denied any knowledge of the vehicles. Records show the cars were registered in the names of the minister’s children, and one has already been sold.
James said this raises serious concerns about corruption and lack of transparency. The party argues that either the gifts were not declared, or funding rules may have been broken.
She said the ActionSA has called on President Cyril Ramaphosa to take action and remove the minister from her position.
