The inaugural Nkalakatha Festival is more than just an entertainment extravaganza — it stands as a beacon of shared heritage and unity, reminding us of the power of music to bring people together. As the countdown begins towards December 20.
Iconic kwaito legend, Mandoza, real name Mduduzi Tshabalala will be celebrated in fine style with a musical event set for the Nasrec Conference and Expo Centre on December 20, 2025.
This festival, dubbed Nkalakatha Fest, in relation of his 90s hit of the same name, promises an explosive lineup that pays homage to a song that has transcended both time and cultural boundaries, uniting the nation through its infectious rhythm and heartfelt lyrics.
The incisive event aims not only to be a focal point of musical entertainment but also to serve as a powerful reminder of South Africa's shared identity and resilience.
“Nkalakatha Fest isn’t just about entertainment; it’s about celebrating who we are as South Africans, resilience, powerful, and united,” remarked Media Manager Prescilla Malinga, highlighting the deeper intentions behind the festival.
With an impressive lineup that features legendary Kwaito artists and a splash of contemporary genres such as Amapiano, attendees can expect performances from the likes of Mdu Masilela, Chomee, Lady Du, Trompies, Boom Shaka, and many more.
The festival will include a medley of musical styles, showcasing Gqom, Rock, and Gospel, while also featuring special tribute performances that honour Mandoza’s lasting legacy.
The Nkalakatha Festival will be a multisensory experience, with the Nkalakatha Village at its heart. This immersive space will offer a celebration of South African cuisine, art, storytelling, exclusive merchandise, and interactive brand experiences.
Moreover, in a move that aligns with the event’s ethos of social responsibility, a portion of the proceeds will be directed towards the Nkalakatha Bursary Fund. This initiative aims to empower young South Africans by providing educational opportunities and fostering a sense of hope and purpose.
“Nkalakatha Fest’25 marks the beginning of an annual movement that merges music, culture, and social impact under the spirit of unity,” Malinga added.
