980 repatriated Malawians expected to arrive jome on Saturday
Nearly 1,000 Malawian nationals repatriated from South Africa are expected to arrive in Malawi on Saturday through the Mwanza Border Post following their departure from the Lindela Holding Facility in Gauteng.
A total of 980 Malawian nationals repatriated from South Africa are expected to arrive in Malawi on Saturday, 13 June 2026, according to the Malawi Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation.
In a statement released on Friday, the ministry said the South African Department of Home Affairs dispatched 14 buses on 11 June carrying Malawian nationals who had been held at the Lindela Holding Facility in Gauteng Province.
The repatriated citizens are expected to enter Malawi through the Mwanza Border Post, where they will undergo the necessary immigration and security clearance procedures before continuing to their respective destinations across the country.
Malawi's Ministry of Foreign Affairs said it remains in close contact with South African authorities, as well as Malawi's diplomatic missions in South Africa, Zimbabwe and Mozambique, to ensure the safe and orderly return of all affected nationals.
The ministry further assured the public that the government remains committed to safeguarding the welfare and interests of Malawians living abroad and will continue to provide updates on the repatriation process as more information becomes available.
The arrival of the 980 nationals marks one of the largest recent repatriation operations involving Malawian citizens from South Africa.
