Police have launched an investigation after a woman believed to be a lawyer was shot dead in a suspected targeted attack in central Johannesburg.
A woman suspected to be a lawyer has been fatally shot in the inner city of Johannesburg on Monday.
The incident occurred at the corner of Fox and Joubert streets, a short distance from the offices of the Commission for Conciliation, Mediation and Arbitration (CCMA).
According to witnesses, the attack appeared to be targeted. The gunman reportedly approached the victim on foot and opened fire before fleeing the scene. The woman, believed to be about 35 years old, had just parked her vehicle and was on her way towards CCMA offices near the Johannesburg Magistrate’s Court.
Police said preliminary investigations suggest the victim may have been followed by two unidentified suspects who then carried out the shooting and escaped on foot.
Gauteng police spokesperson Captain Tintswalo Sibeko confirmed that no arrests have been made. Investigations into the circumstances surrounding the incident are ongoing.
