The Collen Mashawana Foundation has committed to urgently drilling a borehole in Pugwani Village, where residents have gone decades without access to clean drinking water.
The Collen Mashawana Foundation has pledged to urgently drill a borehole in Pugwani Village in Limpopo, following a visit that highlighted the community’s long-standing struggle with access to clean drinking water.
The foundation, led by Dr Collen Mashawana, visited the village as part of a nationwide consultation initiative aimed at strengthening partnerships with traditional leaders to address pressing community challenges.
During the visit, the team engaged with local leadership, including Chief Wisani Hlungwani Madonsi and members of the Royal Council, to discuss ways of improving living conditions and access to basic services.
Discussions focused on collaborative solutions to issues such as water scarcity, housing, food security, education and unemployment.
Residents of Pugwani Village have reportedly gone more than 30 years without reliable access to clean drinking water. The community currently depends on a communal water source that is also used by animals, raising serious health concerns and drawing public attention.
In response, the foundation committed to drilling a borehole to provide safe and clean water. It also announced plans to make a donation to support the community’s immediate needs.
Dr Mashawana emphasized the importance of working closely with traditional leaders to develop sustainable, community-driven solutions that can improve quality of life and address long-term challenges.
The foundation said the visit forms part of its broader commitment to supporting communities across South Africa through impactful and sustainable interventions.
