Tshwane Metro Police officer arrested for alleged fraud
Constable Peter Nonyane was arrested by the Hawks on Friday and remains in custody, with the TMPD confirming that an internal disciplinary investigation has also been launched.
The Tshwane Metro Police Department (TMPD) has confirmed on Monday the arrest of Constable Peter Nonyane on allegations of fraud.
Nonyane was arrested by the Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation, commonly known as the Hawks, on Friday, 14 August 2026.
The TMPD said Nonyane, who recently appeared in footage circulating on social media, remains in custody and is expected to appear in court this week.
The department said it is cooperating fully with the Hawks and will provide all necessary assistance during the investigation.
Following the arrest, the TMPD also opened an internal disciplinary investigation into the matter.
The department said it was considering issuing Nonyane with an intention to suspend him, pending the outcome of the internal and external investigations.
TMPD spokesperson Colonel Isaac Mahamba said the department maintains a zero-tolerance approach to criminality and misconduct among its members.
“The TMPD wishes to reiterate its zero-tolerance stance on criminality and misconduct within its ranks, and it remains committed to upholding the integrity of the department and the trust of the residents of Tshwane.”
Mahamba said the department would not provide further comment while the investigations and legal proceedings were underway.
“In order to protect the integrity of both the internal and external investigations, as well as the ongoing legal process, the TMPD will not provide further comment at this time.”
