Suspect arrested after high-speed chase as police seize 240kg of dagga in Sinoville
A high-speed pursuit from Sinoville to Bon Accord ended with the arrest of a suspect and the seizure of 240kg of dagga worth an estimated R960,000, police said.
A high-speed chase involving police and private security personnel ended with the arrest of a suspect and the seizure of 240kg of dagga in the north of Pretoria on Saturday.
The dagga has an estimated street value of R960,000.
The incident happened at about 05:15 on 7 November 2026, when SAPS members conducting crime prevention patrols spotted a blue Volkswagen Tiguan attempting to enter the Kolonnade Shopping Centre in Sinoville while the entrance gate was still closed.
According to police, the driver noticed the police vehicle, turned around and sped away along Sefako Makgatho Drive.
Police activated their blue lights and siren and attempted to stop the vehicle, but the driver allegedly ignored the instructions and continued driving at high speed.
Assistance was requested through the Sinoville Community Policing Forum radio network, prompting Proshield Security personnel to join the pursuit.
The chase continued until the vehicle was eventually stopped in the Bon Accord area along the R101.
240kg of dagga found in vehicle
A search of the vehicle uncovered several bags containing dagga weighing a combined 240kg.
Further checks also revealed an apparent registration irregularity. Police said the number plates fitted to the Volkswagen Tiguan did not correspond with the vehicle and were instead registered to a Toyota Hilux.
The driver was arrested and is facing charges of dealing in and possession of dagga.
The vehicle was also confiscated and booked into police custody after allegedly being used in the commission of a crime.
The suspect is expected to appear before court on Monday, 9 November 2026.
Police praise security partnership
Tshwane District Commissioner Major General Samuel Thine commended the SAPS members and Proshield Security personnel for their swift response and cooperation.
Thine said continued collaboration between police, community structures and private security companies was important in strengthening crime prevention efforts.
He emphasised that such partnerships can help police respond more effectively to criminal activity and ensure that suspects are brought before the courts.
