The Springboks have reinforced their touring squad by bringing in hooker Bongi Mbonambi and prop Ntuthuko Mchunu as they gear up for their concluding Tests of the Castle Lager European Tour against Ireland and Wales. Coach Rassie Erasmus explained that the unusually long tour and the absence of some frontline players necessitated the call‑ups.
Mbonambi adds proven experience behind the scrum, while Mchunu brings energy and strength, having last represented the national team in 2024. Both players will fly from Italy to Dublin to integrate with the squad and participate in training ahead of the Ireland Test.
Erasmus highlighted that their inclusion is strategic, strengthening depth in the pack and maintaining balance between seasoned players and emerging talent. With the squad bolstered, the Springboks are poised to face the final challenges of the tour with a well-prepared front row and reinforced confidence.
