Shebeshxt remanded in custody after attempted murder charge

Limpopo musician Shebeshxt appeared in the Polokwane Magistrates’ Court on charges of attempted murder, malicious damage to property, and possession of an unlicensed firearm. The case was postponed to 21 November for further profiling while he remains in custody.

Limpopo musician Lehlogonolo Katlego Chauke, known by his stage name “Shebeshxt,” appeared briefly in the Polokwane Magistrates’ Court on Thursday facing charges of attempted murder, malicious damage to property, and possession of an unlicensed firearm.

The 30-year-old artist was arrested on 12 November following an investigation into a shooting incident that took place in Polokwane last month. His bail hearing was not heard on Thursday, and the court postponed the matter to 21 November 2025 for further profiling and the possible addition of more charges.

National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) Limpopo spokesperson Mashudu Malabi said the accused will remain in custody until his next court appearance. “The matter was remanded to 21 November 2025 for the profiling of the accused and the possible addition of further charges,” said Malabi.

According to the police report, the case stems from an incident that occurred on 19 October 2025 along Witklip Street in Ladanna, Polokwane. It is alleged that the complainant and a friend were driving when they saw the accused. As fans, they greeted and praised him, but it is alleged that Shebeshxt responded by asking, “Kgane aletlale ka nna?” before firing a shot at them.

The bullet struck the complainant in the jaw and shattered the window of a Nissan vehicle belonging to the witness. The friend who was with the victim then rushed him to Polokwane Provincial Hospital for medical treatment. Police opened a case of attempted murder and malicious damage to property, and after investigations, the accused was arrested in November.

The musician is also facing other pending criminal cases. Malabi confirmed that he is currently out on R5 000 bail for another case involving two counts of attempted murder, assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm, robbery with aggravating circumstances, and malicious injury to property. “That trial is scheduled to commence from 17 to 19 February 2026 in the Lebowakgomo Regional Court,” Malabi said.

This latest arrest adds to a growing list of legal troubles linked to the controversial performer. Shebeshxt has previously drawn public attention through several viral social media videos showing him engaging in reckless behaviour. In some of the videos, he was seen driving dangerously, allegedly under the influence, and appearing to consume substances during live social media sessions.

Earlier this year, the artist was involved in a serious car accident in which his daughter died. He sustained severe injuries in the crash.

The news of his court appearance has sparked a flood of reactions on social media. One user on platform X commented, “After losing a daughter under horrific circumstances, anyone with conventional wisdom would have reflected and introspected. I know we deal with trauma differently, but he is a danger to himself.”

Another user wrote, “This guy is very stupid. I do not know how a lot of you folks view this guy as an idol.” The case continues on 21 November as police and prosecutors finalise investigations.
