Sebokeng court security guard appears in court over alleged rape of 14-year-old girl
A 35-year-old security guard previously stationed at Sebokeng Magistrates’ Court has appeared in court on a rape charge after allegedly assaulting a 14-year-old girl on the court premises. The State intends to oppose his bail application.
A 35-year-old security guard contracted to the Department of Justice has appeared in the Sebokeng Magistrates’ Court after being accused of raping a 14-year-old girl on the court premises.
The National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) regional spokesperson Lumka Mahanjana said the man, who was employed by Fidelity Security and previously stationed at the court, allegedly met the teenager through Facebook in August 2026.
The two reportedly communicated before arranging to meet at the court on Saturday, September 5, while the accused was working a night shift.
Mahanjana said the guard allegedly allowed the girl onto the premises at about 6pm and took her to the children's waiting room.
He allegedly gave her alcohol, which they both consumed. When the teenager became sleepy, he allegedly asked to have sex with her. After she refused, he allegedly raped her.
The accused allegedly gave the girl money for transport at about 4am the following morning.
The teenager did not return to the home she shared with her mother and instead went to her father's residence.
Her mother reported her missing after she failed to return home. She later established that the girl was staying with her father, prompting a Children's Court enquiry to determine her living arrangements.
The alleged rape was only disclosed on October 26 during an interview with a social worker as part of the Children's Court proceedings.
The social worker informed the girl's parents, after which the matter was reported to the police.
Following an investigation, the accused was arrested on October 27 at Vereeniging Magistrates’ Court, where he was stationed at the time.
The accused appeared in the Sebokeng Magistrates’ Court on Friday, October 30. His case was postponed to November 6 for a bail application.
Mahanjana said the State intended to oppose his release on bail.
