A 61-year-old school principal was shot dead in his home in Tembisa during an apparent robbery in the early hours of Sunday. Police say four suspects armed with an axe forced entry and fled with cash, laptops and cellphones. No arrests have been made and investigations are underway, authorities said.
A prominent school principal has been fatally shot during a robbery at his Tembisa home in the early hours of Sunday, police confirmed. The 61-year-old man was killed after four men entered the residence with an axe around midnight and assaulted him and his family, Gauteng SAPS spokesperson Dimakatso Nevhuhulwi said.
The suspects reportedly made off with cash, laptops and cellphones following the attack. Nevhuhulwi said no arrests have been made yet and investigations are ongoing as police work to piece together what happened and identify those responsible.
The violent robbery and killing have shocked the local community, where targeted attacks on residents have heightened concerns about rising crime. Police have urged anyone with information to come forward to assist with the investigation.
This incident comes amid broader concerns over violence affecting educators and school officials in the area. Last month, a principal and an administrative staff member at Inxiweni Primary School in Tembisa were shot dead inside the school’s administration block, prompting calls for improved security measures around schools and neighbourhoods.
