Lekompo artist Shebeshxt to remain in jail after bail denied
The Polokwane Magistrate’s Court has postponed a decision on Lehlogonolo Katlego Chauke’s urgent bail bid as the State disputes his medical claims.
Lekompo artist Lehlogonolo "Shebeshxt" Chauke remains in custody after his latest urgent bail application was heard at the Polokwane Magistrate’s Court.
Chauke has been behind bars since November 2025 following a shooting incident that led to serious charges, including attempted murder and firearm-related offences.
His legal team recently argued that he should be granted bail on medical grounds, claiming he needs surgery linked to injuries from a 2024 car accident. However, the State strongly opposed the application, disputing claims that he is being denied proper medical care while in detention.
This is not Chauke’s first attempt to secure his release. Earlier bail applications were rejected by both the magistrate’s court and the High Court, keeping him in custody as legal proceedings continue.
The court has now reserved judgment, with a decision expected on Tuesday, 28 April 2026. Until then, Chauke will remain behind bars.
