R228m Medicare 24 corruption case awaits review panel decision
The Pretoria Regional Court has postponed the corruption case against Vusimuzi “Cat” Matlala and 15 others to 17 November 2026, pending the completion of a review into the validity of the charges.
The R228 million Medicare 24 Tshwane District corruption case involving businessman Vusimuzi “Cat” Matlala and 15 co-accused has been postponed to 17 November 2026.
The matter was postponed by the Pretoria Regional Court to allow the Review Panel to complete its assessment of the validity of the charges and for the National Director of Public Prosecutions (NDPP) to issue an instruction on the way forward.
The review forms part of the IDAC Reset Project, which involves a review of cases by a panel comprising senior prosecutors from the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) and senior attorneys from the Special Investigating Unit (SIU).
According to the NPA, the process is intended to establish whether all legal prescripts were followed and whether the evidence in the cases meets the minimum threshold required to secure convictions.
Matlala and his 15 co-accused face corruption charges linked to the alleged irregular awarding of a contract valued at approximately R228 million to Medicare 24 Tshwane District, a company owned by Matlala.
The NPA, through IDAC, said it remains committed to ensuring that all legal prescripts are followed when prosecuting alleged corruption.
The matter will return to court on 17 November 2026, when the parties are expected to receive further direction following the Review Panel’s assessment.
