Police in KwaZulu-Natal have launched a manhunt after four people were found burnt to death in two vehicles in the Umatata area of Inanda on Saturday. The police are investigating four counts of murder.
The motive of the killings is unknown at this stage, however police suspect that the incident could be related to stock theft.
According to the provincial police, officers responded to reports of two burnt vehicles on 15 November. Inside a Nissan NP200, police discovered one body burnt beyond recognition. Three more bodies, also burnt beyond recognition, were found in a Toyota Rumion nearby.
Police said three cattle carcasses were found next to the NP200. While the motive has not been confirmed, investigators suspect the incident may be linked to stock theft.
Police spokesperson Colonel Robert Netshiunda confirmed that the process of identifying the victims is under way, and police have begun searching for the suspects.
Netshiunda also confirmed that the search for suspects is ongoing.
