Parliament announces members of impeachment committee
Political parties represented in the National Assembly have submitted names of MPs who will serve on the newly established Impeachment Committee, with the ANC finalising its nominations over the weekend
The Speaker of the National Assembly has officially received the list of Members of Parliament nominated by political parties to serve on the Impeachment Committee.
Political parties were required to submit their nominees by Friday, 22 May 2026. While most parties met the deadline, the ANC informed Parliament that it would submit its names over the weekend, which it has since done.
GOOD and the PAC declined to participate in the committee, citing that their only MPs also serve in the Executive.
The ANC nominated 10 members, including DE Mpapane, X Nqola, MS Lekganyane and AF Muthambi, among others. The DA submitted five names, including G Michalakis, BB Nodada and Adv Glynnis Breytenbach.
The uMkhonto weSizwe Party nominated Dr MJ Hlophe, SMN Mokoena-Zondi and Dr K Litchfield-Tshabalala, while the EFF will be represented by Julius Malema and Omphile Maotwe.
Other parties represented on the committee include the IFP, Patriotic Alliance, FF Plus, ActionSA, ACDP, UDM, Rise Mzansi, BOSA, ATM, Al Jama-ah, NCC and UAT.
Parliament said the committee has now been formally constituted following the submission of nominations by political parties.
