MOVE SA announces Patrick Moraka as Ekurhuleni mayoral candidate

MOVE SA has formally announced Patrick Moraka as its mayoral candidate for the City of Ekurhuleni ahead of the 2026 Local Government Elections.

The party said Moraka brings leadership experience, business acumen, community networks and an understanding of the challenges confronting residents and businesses across the municipality.

Moraka said Ekurhuleni needed decisive leadership and a people-centred approach to local government.

“Ekurhuleni does not need another election campaign built on promises that disappear after voting day. It needs leadership that understands that public office is a responsibility to the people and that performance must be measurable,” Moraka said.

MOVE SA has identified reliable service delivery, accountable governance, economic development, job creation, infrastructure, public safety and improved municipal efficiency as some of its key priorities for Ekurhuleni.

The party said it was particularly concerned about the gap between Ekurhuleni's economic potential and the lived reality of many of its residents.

Ekurhuleni is one of South Africa's major economic and industrial centres, and MOVE SA believes the municipality has significant potential to create more opportunities for its residents.

As the 2026 Local Government Elections approach, MOVE SA said it would continue engaging with residents, communities, civil society, businesses and other stakeholders across Ekurhuleni.

The party said these engagements would help it understand residents' priorities and develop practical solutions to challenges facing the municipality.

MOVE SA is contesting the elections under the slogan: “Lead Local; Fearless Politics.”
