Danny Jordaan re-elected as SAFA president after defeating Sandile Zungu

Dr Danny Jordaan has won the race for the South African Football Association (SAFA) presidency, securing a fourth term at the helm of the country’s football governing body.

Jordaan received 157 votes, defeating his rival, Sandile Zungu, who secured 82 votes.

The SAFA Elective Congress was held on Saturday, September 12, despite concerns over alleged intimidation and death threats against some delegates.

SAFA revealed on Friday evening that several delegates had received death threats, while others were allegedly intimidated ahead of the Elective Congress.

Despite the concerns, the congress proceeded as planned, with delegates casting their votes to determine the next leadership of the association.

According to results announced by SAFA, Jordaan emerged victorious with a clear majority over Zungu.

The result means Jordaan will serve a fourth term as SAFA president, extending his leadership of the association.

The election comes amid heightened scrutiny of SAFA and its leadership, with the association facing pressure over the direction and administration of South African football.

Jordaan’s victory now gives him another term to oversee the association and its responsibilities, including the development and administration of football in South Africa.
