A fatal crash on the N12 Comora on ramp eastbound in Alberton claimed two lives and left three others injured early on Monday morning. The City of Ekurhuleni has urged motorists to use alternative routes as emergency services clear the scene and investigate the incident.
The City of Ekurhuleni has advised motorists to use alternative routes following a fatal crash on the N12 Comora on ramp eastbound in Alberton early on Monday morning. Emergency services responded to the scene at about 04:05 where two vehicles, a sedan and an SUV, were involved in a serious collision.
The fire and rescue team found that the driver of the sedan and one passenger from the SUV had died at the scene. The Jaws of Life were used to free one of the bodies trapped in the wreckage. Gauteng Forensic Pathology Services were called to remove the deceased.
Three other people were taken to hospital. One patient was in critical condition and two others were in serious condition. The Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Police Department remained on site and has started an investigation into the cause of the crash.
The City of Ekurhuleni said heavy rain had created poor visibility and slippery road surfaces across the region. Officials urged drivers to reduce speed, keep a safe following distance and allow extra travel time during wet conditions.
DEMS spokesperson Maswati Mdluli said emergency services would stay on high alert. “We call on all road users to be patient on the road so that everyone can arrive safely. Our teams will continue to attend to emergencies as weather conditions remain unstable,” he said.
Motorists are encouraged to avoid the N12 Comora on ramp eastbound until the scene is fully cleared and traffic flow is restored. The city said residents can report emergencies by calling 011 458 0911.
