Missing EFF member found dead in Delmas as Political Killings Task Team intensifies murder probe

The Gauteng Political Killings Task Team has found the body of missing Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) member Aaron Makola, bringing a tragic end to a search that began after his disappearance earlier this month.

Makola, 51, was reported missing on 10 July 2026 after he disappeared in Bronkhorstspruit. His vehicle was discovered abandoned the following day, prompting concerns over his safety.

In a statement on Thursday, the South African Police Service (SAPS) said that the Gauteng Political Killings Task Team formally took over the investigation on 20 July after meeting with Makola's family and obtaining crucial information related to his disappearance.

Following an extensive investigation, officers traced the case to Delmas on Thursday, where Makola's body was discovered in a bush.

Preliminary investigations indicate that he was shot and killed before his body was dumped at the scene. His family has since positively identified the deceased.

Police said investigations are now at an advanced stage to identify and arrest those responsible for the murder, including both the perpetrators and anyone who may have orchestrated the killing.

The Gauteng Political Killings Task Team is continuing its investigation to establish the motive behind the murder.
