Minister McKenzie to reveal winners of Mzansi World Cup fan competition
Twenty lucky South Africans will soon find out if they’ve won an all-expenses-paid trip to Mexico to support Bafana Bafana at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
The Minister of Sport, Arts and Culture, Gayton McKenzie, alongside Deputy Minister Peace Mabe, is set to officially announce the winners of the Mzansi to the World Cup Lucky Fans Competition.
The announcement will take place on Tuesday, 5 May 2026, at the Government Communication and Information System (GCIS) offices in Pretoria, Gauteng.
The nationwide competition drew widespread interest from football supporters eager for a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to travel to Mexico City. The 20 selected winners will receive fully funded trips to attend 2026 FIFA World Cup matches, including South Africa’s opening group-stage clash against Mexico.
Organisers say the competition was extended to allow more participants to enter after some experienced technical difficulties during the initial submission period.
With entries now officially closed, an adjudication panel will begin the process of reviewing all qualifying submissions. The panel will select winners based on their passion, creativity, and demonstration of national pride in supporting Bafana Bafana.
The initiative aims to boost fan engagement and rally national support as South Africa prepares to take part on football’s biggest global stage.
