The corruption trial involving former Crime Intelligence head Richard Mdluli and his co-accused has been postponed to 15 September as the defence challenges the validity of search warrants issued during the investigation.
The corruption trial involving former Crime Intelligence head Richard Mdluli and his co-accused has been postponed to 15 September 2026.
The postponement will allow the defence and the State to prepare arguments following a challenge to the validity of search warrants issued during the investigation of the case.
In a statement on Thursday, the State said it has completed leading evidence from its first witness, a retired investigator who previously worked for the Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation (DPCI) and the Investigating Directorate Against Corruption (IDAC).
The witness is currently being cross-examined by the defence.
Mdluli, former South African Police Service (SAPS) Supply Chain Manager Heine Barnard and former Chief Financial Officer Solomon Lazarus are facing charges of corruption, fraud and theft.
The charges relate to the alleged misuse of the SAPS Crime Intelligence secret service account between 2008 and 2012.
The three accused have pleaded not guilty to all charges.
The matter is expected back in court on 15 September for further proceedings.
