Zaza Mokhethi
One of South Africa's leading gospel stars, Zaza Mokhethi believes her new album, Sounds of Gratitude, is South Africa's antidote to the many spiritual and social ills in our country. Mokhethi's journey has been one of resilience and passion, and this forthcoming release reflects her evolution as both an artist and a spiritual leader.
Award-winning gospel singer Zaza Mokhethi is set to inspire and uplift with her latest studio album, Sound of Gratitude, which she describes as an embodiment of a prophetic spirit for these challenging times. This marks her eighth album, and Mokhethi believes it carries a biblical and prophetic message aimed at resonating with listeners navigating life's complexities.
The album taps into what Mokhethi refers to as a “prophetic sound,” designed to echo the divine and inspire gratitude among its audience.
Mokhethi, a former collaborator with some of South Africa’s gospel ensembles, is known for her powerful vocals and heartfelt lyrics.
Over a career spanning almost two decades, she has consistently pushed the boundaries of gospel music, cultivating a sound that resonates with a diverse audience. Her previous albums have received critical acclaim, but Sound of Gratitude promises to bring a fresh energy, embedding her spiritual philosophy into every track. The singer emphasizes that she intends to create music that fosters a deeper connection with God, urging fans to embrace hope and serenity.
“Album number 8 is no coincidence — in biblical terms, the number 8 represents new beginnings, resurrection, and a divine reset. True to its name, Sound of Gratitude offers a refreshing and prophetic sound that speaks directly into the times we are living in,” she says of her new album.
With the world and South Africa at a crossroads amid all the social and economic challenges afflicting the nation, the Calvary singer believes this new album will deliver South Africa’s biblical spiritual Canaan. The new album comes with a standout single, “Utokwenta Kwenteke” — inspired by Isaiah 60:22 — that has already captured the attention of listeners across the country. Its powerful message echoes God’s perfect timing: “When the time is right, I, the Lord, will make it happen.”
“Sound of Gratitude is more than just another gospel musical offering. It marks a new dawn, a new season, and a new dispensation in Zaza’s musical journey and personal walk of faith. Known for her anointed voice and deep lyrical storytelling, Zaza has outdone herself — penning 90% of the songs on this project, pouring her heart and spiritual insight into every note and lyric.
“This album was birthed in a time when the world desperately needs hope, healing, and spiritual restoration,” says Zaza. Ministers of song are being called to rise and become the solution through sound — and Sound of Gratitude is my response to that call,” she reveals.
When it comes to the process of creating this prophetic masterpiece, she reveals that the process was different this time around, because she began working on the songs around March all the way to August.
“The creation of the songs came differently this time through dreams, while I was on the flight travelling overseas. Another thing, this time around, I wrote 90% of the songs because I wanted to make sure that it delivers the intended message, which tackles themes of gratitude, hope, faith, and renewal woven throughout, each track is an invitation to encounter God afresh.”
