Family identifies body of missing runner Elizabeth ‘Tsontso’ Moselakgomo

The family of 38-year-old Elizabeth “Tsontso” Moselakgomo has positively identified her body at the Germiston mortuary, after she went missing while out for a run.

Moselakgomo went for a run on 10 September but did not return home.

Her eight-year-old daughter became worried when her mother failed to come back.

Her body was discovered on 12 September, partially dressed.

The family positively identified her remains at the Germiston mortuary on Monday.

Her death comes amid ongoing investigations into the deaths of several women in the Kempton Park area and other parts of Gauteng.

Acting National Commissioner of the South African Police Service (SAPS), Lieutenant General Puleng Dimpane, has vowed that police will leave no stone unturned in finding those responsible for the deaths.

Dimpane also conveyed her condolences to the Moselakgomo family.

“We extend our deepest sympathies to the family and loved ones of Elizabeth during this extremely painful time. The loss of a loved one under such circumstances is devastating, and we assure the family that the SAPS will do everything within its powers to establish exactly what happened to Elizabeth and to ensure that those responsible are held accountable,” said Dimpane.

She has directed a multidisciplinary team comprising detectives and specialised police resources to intensify investigations into the cases.

The team is working to establish the circumstances surrounding each death, analyse available evidence, identify possible links between the cases and follow all leads that could help bring those responsible to justice.

Dimpane assured the public that the SAPS remains committed to protecting women and ensuring that perpetrators of violence against women face the full might of the law.

“We will not rest until we have established the truth. Where there is evidence linking individuals to these crimes, we will pursue them relentlessly and ensure that they face the full might of the law,” she said.

One suspect has so far been arrested in connection with the discovery of the first body in July. The suspect remains in custody.
