Edenvale man nabbed for kidnapping and shooting incident involving e-hailing driver
A 45-year-old Edenvale man is set to appear in court after allegedly kidnapping an e-hailing driver, firing a gun at him, and preventing him from leaving following accusations of a romantic relationship with his girlfriend.
A 45-year-old man has been arrested in Edenvale, Gauteng, on charges of kidnapping, unlawful discharge of a firearm, and defeating the ends of justice following a violent confrontation with an e-hailing driver on Sunday morning.
In a statement police spokesperson Tintswalo Sibeko said that the incident happened at approximately 07:30 on 14 June 2026 when an e-hailing driver transported a female passenger to a residence in Edenvale.
Upon arrival, the driver was allegedly confronted by the suspect, who accused him of having a romantic relationship with his girlfriend. Police say the suspect then forced the driver into his vehicle and prevented him from leaving the scene.
During the altercation, the suspect allegedly discharged a firearm in the direction of the driver. Fortunately, the driver escaped unharmed and immediately drove to a nearby police station to report the incident.
Law enforcement officers responded swiftly and arrested the suspect shortly after the complaint was lodged. Authorities have confirmed that investigations into the matter are ongoing.
The suspect is expected to make his first appearance in the Germiston Magistrate's Court on Monday, 15 June 2026.
Police have urged members of the public to resolve disputes through lawful means and to report criminal conduct to the authorities rather than taking matters into their own hands.
