Brown Mogotsi appears in court over alleged staged assassination attempt

North West businessman Brown Mogotsi is set to make his first court appearance in the Johannesburg Magistrate’s Court on Monday after being charged with defeating the ends of justice.

Mogotsi was arrested on Friday evening shortly after testifying before the Madlanga Commission.

Police said Mogotsi is accused of allegedly staging an assassination attempt against himself in Vosloorus in November 2025.

At the time of the incident, Mogotsi claimed that unknown gunmen ambushed him while he was driving a red Chevrolet. His vehicle was reportedly riddled with bullets during the alleged attack.

Police now believe the shooting was orchestrated and that Mogotsi allegedly faked the hit on himself.
