Zimbabwean national arrested over alleged fake SA ID card operation
A Zimbabwean national has been arrested in Hillbrow after police allegedly uncovered an operation producing fraudulent South African identity cards, with 22 blank smart ID cards and a card-printing machine seized.
A Zimbabwean national has been arrested after police allegedly uncovered an operation manufacturing fraudulent South African smart identity cards in the Hillbrow policing precinct.
Police received information on Wednesday, September 9, about a man who was allegedly recruiting people seeking South African smart identity cards, as well as forged bank statements and payslips.
Following the verification of the information, police conducted an operation in the area.
The search resulted in the seizure of six South African smart identity cards and 22 blank smart identity cards.
Police also confiscated a laptop and a smart card printing machine, which are believed to have been used in the alleged fraudulent operation.
The Zimbabwean national was subsequently arrested and is expected to appear in court soon.
Police have urged members of the public to report suspected illegal activities in their communities.
