Two suspects have been arrested in Alberton after a series of street robberies, with police recovering a firearm, drugs and stolen cellphones.
Two suspects were arrested in Alberton on Saturday following a string of armed street robberies in the General Alberts Park and Mayberry Park areas.
Private security companies CPS Security and React 24 tracked a suspected getaway vehicle to a nearby premises, where the suspects were located.
During the operation, authorities recovered a firearm and narcotics, including Mandrax.
Officers from the South African Police Service in Alberton carried out the arrests.
Police also recovered stolen items, including several cellphones, from a local pawn shop believed to be linked to the suspects.
Authorities confirmed that at least one victim has opened a case, and have urged other victims to come forward.
Investigations into the robberies are ongoing.
