Tshuma extradition case returns to Johannesburg court

The case against 45-year-old Ndodana Tshuma, who is wanted in the United Kingdom in connection with the alleged murders of his wife and two daughters, is expected to return to the Johannesburg Magistrate’s Court.

Tshuma is accused of killing his wife, Zandile, and their two daughters, 15-year-old Natalie and five-year-old Nala, in the UK last month.

He was arrested in Kensington, Johannesburg, days after the alleged murders. He was reportedly found in possession of a firearm at the time of his arrest.

Tshuma, an IT specialist, is facing a separate charge in South Africa for the unlawful possession of a firearm and ammunition.

South African authorities are also processing a provisional extradition request from the UK as they work towards determining whether Tshuma should be surrendered to British authorities to face the murder allegations.

State prosecutor Lourain Kgaditsi told the Johannesburg Magistrate’s Court that investigations were still under way.

She said authorities had finalised documentation relating to the legality of Tshuma’s stay in South Africa, but were still waiting for additional documents from the UK.

Kgaditsi said the murder allegations against Tshuma relate to the UK, while the South African case concerns the possession of a firearm and ammunition.

The prosecutor asked the court to postpone the matter to 27 August to allow the investigation and extradition process to progress.
