As the unfolding drama at JOSCHO erupts with acting hotshot CEO Themba Mathibe at the centre of arrest speculations, JOSHCO has called for calm heads to prevail and the law to take its course.
As speculation continue to capture the attention of the Johannesburg public, the Johannesburg Social Housing Company (JOSCHO) has called for calm following reports concerning the alleged arrest of Themba Mathibe.
Previously, Mathibe served as the entity's executive before he went to the Johannesburg Development Agency (JDA). The former youth league leader, also served as the JDA CEO for the past two years, and was recently seconded to lead the city's social housing company.
On Tuesday JOSCHO issued a statement urging the public to withhold judgment as legal processes unfold.
According to various local media reports, Mathibe's arrest is believed to stem from a raid conducted by law enforcement authorities at the city’s social housing offices. Insiders have indicated that he was apprehended after allegedly being found in possession of a substantial amount of cash. This investigation reportedly centres around allegations of irregularities pertaining to certain contracts.
"The JOSCHO is aware of speculation regarding alleged arrests involving its staff members. At this stage, the entity cannot confirm any arrests, nor verify any allegations as it would be inappropriate to comment on unverified information," the housing company said.
They further clarified that while some of their employees had been questioned by law enforcement agencies on Monday, there has been no official communication regarding Mathibe's situation or that of any other staff member.
The housing company affirmed its commitment to the rule of law, emphasising the principle of innocent until proven guilty.
"JOSCHO respects the rule of law and the presumption of innocence until proven guilty and believes it is important that legal processes are allowed to unfold without any interference."
