Shadrack Sibiya resigns from SAPS, faces dishonourable discharge
Lieutenant General Shadrack Sibiya has resigned from the South African Police Service with immediate effect while facing disciplinary proceedings. SAPS says his departure is regarded as a dishonourable discharge.
Lieutenant General Shadrack Sibiya is no longer an employee of the South African Police Service (SAPS) after tendering his resignation during disciplinary proceedings on Monday.
In a statement on Monday, 12 October 2026, SAPS confirmed that Sibiya’s departure from the service took effect immediately.
His disciplinary hearing resumed on Monday morning, during which his legal representative tendered his resignation shortly after proceedings commenced.
According to SAPS, Sibiya had an ongoing disciplinary case against him at the time of his resignation.
The police service said his departure would therefore be regarded as a dishonourable discharge.
