Senior municipal official nabbed in Ekurhuleni corruption probe
A 50-year-old senior municipal official has been arrested in Gauteng as part of an ongoing investigation into alleged corruption within the Ekurhuleni Metro Police Department, with more arrests expected.
The South African Police Service (SAPS) Madlanga Commission Task Team has arrested a 50-year-old senior municipal official on charges of fraud, corruption, and defeating or obstructing the ends of justice.
The suspect was arrested at his home in Gauteng on Saturday morning, police spokesperson Athlenda Mathe said.
Mathe confirmed that the arrest forms part of a broader investigation into alleged corruption within the Ekurhuleni Metro Police Department. She added that authorities are still searching for additional suspects believed to be linked to the case.
“The Task Team is still searching for other suspects linked to the case. These arrests emanate from an ongoing investigation into corruption within the Ekurhuleni Metro Police Department,” said Mathe.
Police indicated that no further details on the merits of the case will be released at this stage as investigations continue.
The arrested official, along with other suspects, is expected to appear before the Boksburg Magistrate's Court on Monday, 20 April 2026.
