Scatec joins B20 talks

Scatec will take part in several events during B20 Week to support Africa’s clean energy transition and attract new investment into the sector. The company says policy reform, collaboration and innovative financing are key to expanding renewable power across the continent.

Scatec ASA will take part in several high level meetings during B20 Week as the renewable energy company supports efforts to strengthen Africa’s clean energy transition and attract new investment into the sector. The B20 is the business forum of the G20 and brings together leaders from business, finance and policy to develop proposals that support global growth.

This year the discussions will focus on energy transition, infrastructure investment and innovation. Scatec says these areas match its work to expand renewable power in emerging markets and support economic growth.

Scatec leaders will attend the Bloomberg Africa Outlook Summit, Standard Bank B20 side events, a visit to the Kenhardt solar and battery site, the B20 Summit and the Global Citizen Summit.

The delegation will include chief executive officer Terje Pilskog, executive vice president for Sub Saharan Africa Alberto Gambacorta, vice president for government affairs and financing Enja Saethren, vice president for asset ownership and stakeholder engagement Mohamed Khalpe, and communications and public affairs adviser Aidan Wildschut.

Pilskog said the forum is an important meeting space for global business. “The B20 is a unique platform that brings together business leaders to shape the global policy environment,” he said. He added that Africa has become central to the global conversation on clean energy.

“As the world accelerates its energy transition Africa’s role as both a renewable powerhouse and a frontier for sustainable investment has never been more important. Our participation at B20 Week reaffirms Scatec’s commitment to unlocking clean energy growth through collaboration innovation and impact.”

Gambacorta said the continent is already making progress on clean energy. “Across Africa this transformation is no longer a distant ambition it is already underway. The continent’s conversation about energy is shifting from one of scarcity to one of opportunity and South Africa stands at the centre of this transition,” he said.

He said the B20 discussions highlight the need for stronger policy and partnership to drive progress. “With stronger frameworks public private collaboration and innovative financing models countries like South Africa are laying the foundation for a just and accelerated energy transition that can power inclusive economic growth,” he said.

Scatec says its work in South Africa shows what long term planning can achieve. The company has been part of the country’s renewable procurement programme and recently commissioned the Kenhardt solar and battery hybrid facility. Scatec says the region is also seeing progress with more energy sector reform in South Africa and growing cross border electricity trading. Platforms like Lyra Energy form part of the company’s goal to support local skills and leadership.

The company says policy is key to meeting energy needs across Africa. Scatec notes that reforms in South Africa on market rules and climate goals are creating better conditions for renewable investment. The company says the continent must move faster to direct funding towards energy access for the many people who still do not have reliable power supply. This aligns with B20 calls for an energy transition that supports all communities.

Gambacorta said Scatec will continue to support solutions that combine large projects with flexible systems. He said the company’s Release and Lyra Energy platforms show that clean power can be delivered quickly and affordably to industries and communities.

B20 recommendations on energy include increasing investment in clean power through de risking tools and blended finance, improving energy access and grid strength, expanding public private partnerships for climate aligned infrastructure, supporting just transition measures that promote inclusion and skills development, and advancing global carbon market standards.

Scatec says its portfolio across several technologies and its long term partnerships position it to help implement these recommendations and turn policy goals into practical results.
