SASSA spokesperson Paseka Letsatsi urged the beneficiaries to verify information through official platforms and should only trust updates from SASSA’s verified social media pages.
The South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) has dismissed viral claims suggesting that beneficiaries will receive double social grant payments, urging the public not to be misled by false information circulating on social media.
In a statement on Wednesday, SASSA spokesperson Paseka Letsatsi urged the beneficiaries to verify information through official platforms and should only trust updates from SASSA’s verified social media pages.
"Before anyone can share any information pertaining to social grants, they must first verify its authenticity to avoid disseminating false information that may cause anxiety and stress to our beneficiaries,” Letsatsi said.
The agency reminded South Africans that social grants support over 19 million people, warning that false rumours create panic among vulnerable recipients. SASSA called on the public to remain vigilant and to refrain from spreading unverified claims.
The next payment schedule for social grants has been released as follows:
Older person’s grants will be paid from: November 4
Disability grants will be paid from: November 5
Children’s grants will be paid from: November 6
