SASSA outlines monthly payment dates for social grants, with changes aimed at improving access and avoiding weekends and public holidays.
The South African Social Security Agency has officially released the social grant payment schedule for the 2026/2027 financial year following approval from the National Treasury.
In a statement on Monday, the agency said the payment structure is designed to ensure beneficiaries receive their funds as early as possible each month, while maintaining an efficient and accessible system. Payments will continue to be staggered over three days, typically starting with older persons, followed by disability grants, and lastly children’s grants.
SASSA explained that, under normal circumstances, older persons’ grants are paid from the second day of the month, disability grants on the third day, and children’s grants on the fourth.
However, several factors are considered when finalising the dates. Payments are not scheduled immediately after a public holiday, on the first day of the month, or on a Monday. Additionally, payment dates are arranged to avoid weekends. Should a payment date fall on a weekend or public holiday, beneficiaries will receive their funds on the next working day.
According to the schedule, April 2026 payments will see older persons paid on 2 April, disability grants on 7 April, and children’s grants on 8 April. In May, payments will take place on 5 May for older persons, 6 May for disability grants, and 7 May for children’s grants.
For June, older persons will be paid on 2 June, followed by disability grants on 3 June and children’s grants on 4 June. In July, payments are set for 2 July (older persons), 3 July (disability grants), and 6 July (children’s grants).
SASSA said the schedule is aimed at ensuring smoother operations within the national payment system while improving access to funds for beneficiaries across the country.
