The South African Police Service is investigating reports that businessman and political fixer Brown Mogotsi came under fire in Vosloorus Extension 25, east of Johannesburg. The vehicle he was travelling in is said to have been hit by more than eight bullets, though injuries, fatalities or arrests have not yet been confirmed
Police are racing to verify a chilling incident in Vosloorus, Ekurhuleni, after reports emerged that North West–based businessman and political operator Brown Mogotsi was targeted in what appears to be an attempted hit.
Brigadier Athlenda Mathe of the South African Police Service said she was en route to the Vosloorus police station to ascertain the veracity of the claims. “I’m heading to Vosloorus SAPS to ascertain reports about Brown Mogotsi,” she said.
According to verified media reports, the vehicle in which Mogotsi was travelling was struck by more than eight bullets in Extension 25 of Vosloorus. Mogotsi's condtion and his driver remains unclear, with no official confirmation of injuries, fatalities or arrests at this stage.
The timing of the attack is particularly notable. It comes just days before Mogotsi is scheduled to appear at the Adhoc Committee into Police Corruption on the 18th, 19th, and 20th of November. He is expected to reveal allegations implicating ANC Secretary General Fikile Mbalula and his wife in corrupt activities, which Mogotsi claims have undermined the integrity of the police and political institutions.
Mogotsi’s presence in the spotlight is not new. He has recently been implicated in a raft of investigations into alleged corruption, political interference and illicit payments to individuals tied to the ruling party. In October, his business premises near Mahikeng were raided as part of an ongoing probe. He has described the pressure he faces as “targeted harassment.”
The investigation is still in its early stages and police have urged the public to await official statements before drawing conclusions. The situation is being closely monitored for signs of escalation or further developments.
