SAPS fires suspended Major General Richard Shibiri
The South African Police Service has dismissed former Organised Crime Component Head Major General Richard Shiburi after he was found guilty of misconduct during an internal disciplinary process.
The South African Police Service (SAPS) has confirmed the dismissal of Major General Richard Shibiri, the former head of Organised Crime, following the completion of internal disciplinary proceedings.
In a statement on Friday the SAPS said that the disciplinary process was conducted in line with organisational regulations and principles of procedural fairness. Shibiri was found guilty of misconduct linked to actions that brought the police service into disrepute.
Shibiri also admitted to maintaining close ties with alleged underworld figure Vusimuzi "Cat" Matlala.
The misconduct findings included allegations that he associated himself with a known criminal, conduct SAPS said was incompatible with the standards expected of senior officers.
