SAPS disciplinary hearing against Lt-Gen Sibiya to resume next week
The disciplinary proceedings against Lieutenant General Shadrack Sibiya are continuing, with the hearing postponed to 12 October to give him time to consult his legal representatives. SAPS says the disciplinary process has not been halted by the separate Labour Court proceedings.
The South African Police Service (SAPS) has confirmed that disciplinary proceedings against Lieutenant General Shadrack Sibiya are continuing and have not been suspended.
Sibiya’s disciplinary hearing was heard on Monday, but his request for a postponement was granted to allow him an opportunity to consult with his legal representatives.
The hearing has now been postponed to 12 October 2026.
SAPS said the disciplinary proceedings and the urgent Labour Court application brought by Sibiya are separate matters and have been running concurrently.
The Labour Court application was also heard on Monday but was adjourned to allow SAPS to file its opposing papers and for Sibiya to submit his replying affidavit.
The matter will only be heard once the required court papers have been filed.
SAPS said the Labour Court proceedings remain sub judice and that it would therefore not comment on the merits of the application.
