SAPS deploys top investigators after attempted assassination of Major General Feroz Khan
SAPS has launched a high-level investigation into the attempted murder of Major General Feroz Khan, with the Hawks, Crime Intelligence and the Political Killings Task Team leading the probe.
The South African Police Service (SAPS) has launched a high-level investigation into the attempted murder of Major General Feroz Khan after he was shot in Houghton, Johannesburg, on Sunday evening.
The investigation is being led by the Gauteng Hawks, Gauteng Crime Intelligence and the SAPS Detective Service. Acting National Commissioner Lieutenant General Puleng Dimpane has also instructed that the Political Killings Task Team (PKTT) be incorporated into the investigation to ensure every lead is thoroughly pursued and those responsible are brought to justice.
Major General Khan was due to appear before the Madlanga Commission on 1 July 2026. However, SAPS has urged the public to avoid speculation about the motive for the attack or any possible link to his scheduled testimony, saying investigators will rely solely on evidence.
Police stressed that any attempt to intimidate, silence or attack individuals involved in judicial processes is regarded as a serious offence. SAPS said any effort to interfere with the administration of justice or the work of the commission would be met with the full force of the law.
Lieutenant General Dimpane condemned the shooting, reaffirming SAPS' commitment to identifying, tracing and arresting those responsible. She also wished Major General Khan a speedy recovery and extended her support to his family during this difficult time.
