Ramaphosa congratulates Brazil’s Lula on re-election for historic fourth term
President Cyril Ramaphosa has congratulated Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva on his re-election for a historic fourth term, pledging to strengthen diplomatic and strategic relations between South Africa and Brazil.
President Cyril Ramaphosa has extended his congratulations to Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva following his re-election for a historic fourth term.
In a statement on Monday, Ramaphosa congratulated Lula and the people of Brazil on behalf of the South African government and citizens.
Ramaphosa described Lula’s victory as a win for the Global South and progressive forces worldwide, reaffirming South Africa’s commitment to strengthening diplomatic and strategic relations with Brazil.
“On behalf of the government and the people of South Africa I congratulate my dear brother and friend, President Lula and the people of Brazil. This victory will echo beyond the shores of Brazil. It is a victory for the global south and progressive forces throughout the world,” Ramaphosa said.
South Africa and Brazil maintain close bilateral relations based on South-South cooperation, multilateralism and shared leadership in international forums, including BRICS, IBSA, the G77+China and the G20.
In March 2026, Ramaphosa undertook a state visit to Brazil at Lula’s invitation. The visit further strengthened trade and political relations between the two countries.
Ramaphosa said South Africa remained committed to working closely with Brazil in bilateral relations and multilateral forums to promote solidarity, international law and a more just global order.
“We affirm our commitment to continue strengthening bilateral relations between our two countries and working closely together in all multilateral fora to forge a just and better world order underpinned by solidarity and adherence to international law,” he said.
