In a gruesome murder case that has gripped the nation, police pursue leads in the murder of DJ Warras, a beloved media figure, with a woman believed to have been one of the residents of the inner-city building identified as another piece in the puzzle.
The tragic murder of popular South African media personality Warrick Stock, known to his fans as DJ Warras, has catalysed an intensive police investigation. Johannesburg’s MMC for Public Safety, Mgcini Tshwaku, has revealed that law enforcement has identified a woman as a person of interest linked to the heinous crime, which took place near the Carlton Centre on Tuesday.
The gunning down of Warras, in broad daylight outside the Carlton Hotel in Johannesburg earlier this week, has been described as yet another hit believed to be linked to building hijackers.
Reports have revealed that this loved media personality had taken up security work, which placed him firmly on the shady criminal network that runs dilapidated buildings in the inner city, with former Joburg Mayor, Herman Mashaba, saying this city has no less than 500 hijacked buildings.
Reports suggest that the woman in question was a former tenant at the Zambesi building in Johannesburg’s CBD, the very location where DJ Warras was shot and killed.
As the investigation unfolds, police have launched a manhunt for additional suspects believed to be involved in the gruesome act. Five individuals have already been detained for questioning in connection with the case.
Juggling multiple avenues of inquiry, Tshwaku disclosed that law enforcement officials are working diligently around the clock to uncover the circumstances surrounding the murder. “There’s a woman also cited to be the kingpin; she’s also implicated in the protection order,” he stated, highlighting that the victim had previously sought legal protection from aggressors.
“There’s a committee there that has been threatening Warras and some of them have been saying that because he’s trying to take them out, then they will see him in the bush. Hence, he had to go and get a protection order.”
Fans and colleagues of the late DJ Warras are reeling from the shocking news. His legacy as a beloved radio host at Gagasi and Y FM is now overshadowed by the tragic events surrounding his death. The investigation not only seeks justice for Warras, but also hopes to shed light on the underlying issues that led to such violent outcomes.
