Police have arrested a 50-year-old man in connection with a house robbery and murder at Maokeng Extension in Tembisa. The suspect was taken into custody on Sunday evening following an investigation that traced leads to his home. Authorities have indicated that more arrests are expected as investigations continue.
The incident occurred in the early hours of Sunday, 14 December 2025, when four suspects allegedly forced entry into a family home using an axe. During the attack, the husband, who is reported to be a school principal, was shot and killed, while his wife and son were assaulted. The suspects reportedly stole laptops, cellphones and cash before fleeing the scene.
The arrested suspect is expected to appear before the Tembisa Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday, 17 December 2025. Gauteng Provincial SAPS spokesperson Colonel Dimakatso Nevhuhulwi confirmed the arrest o Monday and said the investigation remains ongoing.
Police investigations initially began after the family reported the violent robbery and murder. Officers are following multiple leads to identify and apprehend the remaining suspects involved in the attack. The SAPS has urged anyone with information regarding the incident to come forward to assist with the investigation.
Colonel Nevhuhulwi said authorities are prioritising community safety and are working to ensure that those responsible for the attack are brought to justice. The case has heightened awareness in Tembisa about the dangers of violent home invasions, and police have reassured residents that efforts are being intensified to prevent similar incidents.
The arrest marks the first breakthrough in the case, and police continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the robbery and murder.
