KwaZulu-Natal police have arrested a man accused of threatening to shut down Moses Mabhida Stadium to prevent the MTN8 Cup final between Orlando Pirates and Mamelodi Sundowns from taking place.
KwaZulu-Natal police have arrested a man who allegedly threatened to shut down Moses Mabhida Stadium ahead of the MTN8 Cup final between Orlando Pirates and Mamelodi Sundowns.
In a statement on Saturday, 10 October 2026, police said the suspect had threatened to gather his followers to prevent the match from taking place.
KZN Police spokesperson Colonel Robert Netshiunda said that the man had assembled a group of people at King Dinizulu Park in Durban with the intention of staging a march.
Those who had gathered with him allegedly fled the scene.
Netshiunda said anyone threatening to cause instability would be dealt with in accordance with the law.
The arrest comes amid heightened tensions in Durban following protests against undocumented immigration that turned violent over the past two days.
